Lesson No.7 - The advantages and disadvantages of different types of media

Ostatnia wizyta w muzeum stworzyła okazję do wykorzystania
różnych mediów w celu opowiedzenia historii o naszym wyjściu
oraz o samej wystawie.
Our last visit to the museum was an excellent opportunity
to use various kind of media in order to tell a story
of our trip and the exhibition itself.

Choć wszyscy uczniowie wywiązali się tego dnia rzetelnie
ze swoich zadań, nie wszystkim udało się dokończyć projekt
i opisać swoje doświadczenia oraz refleksje na temat
zalet i wad medium, które wykorzystali. Ci jednak,
którzy wykonali pracę domową mieli okazję podyskutować
o swoich pomysłach i usłyszeć konstruktywną krytykę od
nauczyciela, a tym samym, zrobić kolejny krok na drodze
doskonalenia swoich umiejętności.
Although all students did well that day not everybody
managed afterwards to submitt their reports on advantaes
and disadvantages of the medium they used. Those, however,
who did, had a chance to discuss their ideas and receive
from the teacher a positive critique of their work, and so,
advance their skills, one step forward.

Na uwagę zasługują wszystkie oddane prace, chociaż tekst
Wojtka był najbardziej rozbudowany i należy mu się duży
plus za poważne i wnikliwe podejście do tematu, szczególnie
z uwagi na fakt, że napisał pracę w dwóch językach:
polskim i angielskim. Brawo!
All submitted works were worth mentioning, but Wojtek's
text was the most elaborate and kudos to him for very
reflective and discerning approach, especially considering
the fact that he wrote it bilingually: in Polish and in
English. Bravo!

Zachęcam wszystkich uczniów do systematycznej pracy i ...
obecności na zajęciach. Widać klasa ma ostatnio problemy z
frekwencją w szkole, mam nadzieję, że tylko przejściowe.
I encourage all students to work systhematically and...
to attend the classes. I can see that recently the class
has trouble with attendance, which, I hope, is only a
temporal.

Lesson No. 6 - Creating Media Texts (Hands-on)

Tym razem uczniowie spróbowali stworzyć coś sami.
Poszliśmy zwiedzić niedawno otwartą wystawę pt.
"Śladami wyprawy Lewisa i Clarka na Zachód Ameryki".
Uczniowie mieli zrelacjonować wyprawę do muzeum
wykorzystując do tego celu różne media: aparat
fotograficzny, kamerę wideo, rejestrator dźwięku,
oraz papierowy notatnik. W tym ostatnim przypadku,
papier i długopis zastąpił smartfon z funkcją
pisania notatek, co zasadniczo na jedno wychodzi.
This time we have tried to create something on our own.
We went to see the newly opened exhibition "In the footsteps
of Lewis and Clark on their journey to the West of
America". Students were to report our excursion to the
museum, using various media: photographic camera, video
camera, sound recorder, and the paper notepad. This
last medium was replaced by a smartphone app, which
is essentially the same.

Wszyscy potraktowali bardzo poważnie swoje zadania
i starali się wykorzystać zalety medium, które
przyszło im wykorzystać. Również nasz przewodnik, nie
mający wprawdzie roli w tworzeniu tekstu medialnego,
odegrał ważną rolę w całym przedsięwzięciu.
All students took very seriously their jobs and did
their best to use the advantages of their medium, which
happened to be assigned to them. Although our guide
did not participate directly in the process o creating
any media text, her role was no less important in
our endavour.

Wystawa była bardzo ciekawa i uświadomiła uczniom
jakie ogromne znaczenie miała w amerykańskiej historii
wyprawa Lewisa i Clarka. Poznawanie historii w ten
sposób jest bardzo ciekawą i angażującą formą pogłębiania
wiedzy.
The exhibition was very interesting and made the students
realise how important in the Americam history was Lewis
and Clark expedition. Learning history this way is a very
interesting and engaging form of education.

Zadaniem domowym było zrelacjonowanie wycieczki oraz
podzielenie się refleksją na temat zalet i wad, możliwości
i ograniczeń medium, z którego się korzystało.
The homework was to write a report fro the trip to the
museum and reflect on advantages and disadvantages,
possibilities and the limits of the given medium.

Lesson No. 5 - Reviewing the Tests

Na ostatnich lekcjach omawialiśmy nasze sprawdziany.
Każdy z uczniów miał okazję porozmawiać indywidualnie
z nauczycielem o swoich trzech pracach:
In the last lesson we discussed the results of our
recent tests. Each student had an opportynity to
talk individually with the teacher about their tests

Pierwsze lekcje i sprawdziany ujawniły, że jeszcze nie
wszyscy czują się na siłach pisać po angielsku i
wypowiadać się swobodnie w tym języku. Zachęcam wszystkich
uczniów aby jednak próbowali.
The first lessons and recent tests revealed that not all
students are confident to freely use English in speech and
in writing. I strongly encourage all students to try,
despite the difficulties.

Przez pewien czas nie będzie brany pod uwagę język
ustnej, czy pisemnej wypowiedzi, liczyć się będzie
bardziej merytoryczna jej zawartość. Jednak z biegiem
czasu język angielski stanie się obowiązkowy z uwagi
na końcowy egzamin Cambridge International Examination.
The English-Only Language Policy will not be strictly demanded,
for now. The content will be evaluated in the first place.
However, by time, English-only will be required, due to
the nature of the Cambridge International Examination
Programme and The SOKRATES International School status.

Egzaminy końcowe z przedmiotu Media Studies, podobnie
jak i z innych przedmiotów, na zakończenie etapu
podstawowego (Level A) oraz zaawansowanego (Level A2),
będą oceniane przez zewnętrzną komisję egzaminacyjną w
Anglii. Warto już teraz wziąć to pod uwagę i pracować
systematyznie.
Leaaving qualification (exams) for the Media Studies,
as much as for the other subjects in AS Level and A Level,
will be assesed externally by the teachers from England.
It would be wise to work systematically towards that
goal.

Dla rozładowania atmosfery, W drugiej połowie zajęć,
było trochę rozrywki ze "Slangami i cytatami filmowymi",
czyli zbiorem fiszek do nauki języka angielskiego.
Każdy uczeń miał za zadanie wybrać sobie kilka cytatów
i odpowiedzieć o nich parę słów.

To relax a little bit, in the second half of the lesson,
we have played with "Slang and film quotes", flash cards
for learnig English. Each student was to choose a few
quotes that he/she liked and say a few words about it.

Zadaniem domowym było wybranie przez uczniów trzech
ulubionych cytatów i uzasadnienie na piśmie swojego wyboru.
Praca jednego z uczniów (Wojtka) zasługuje szczególnie na
wyróżnienie.
Homework assignement was for the students to pick up
three favourite quotes and explain in writing their choice.
One of the students' work (Wojtek), was particularly well
written.

Lesson No. 4 - Camera Obscura

Tym razem mieliśmy niezwykłą okazję obejrzeć prezentację
efektu optycznego zwanego "Camera Obscura", co po
łacinie znaczy "ciemna komnata".
This time we had a unique opportunity to see a presentation
of an optical phenomenon called "Camera Obscura"
which means "dark room" in Latin.

Światło padające z zewnątrz przez mały otwór tworzy odwrócony
obraz na ścianie wewnątrz ciemnego pomieszczenia. Efekt ten
jest wykorzystywany we wszystkich aparatach fotograficznych i
kamerach filmowych.
The light entering from the outside through a tiny hole
projects an upside-down image inside the darkened room.
This effect is the basis of construction of any photographic
or film camera.

Wielu uczniów po raz pierwszy zobaczyło na własne
oczy ten zdumiewający efekt.
Many of the students saw for the very first time this
wonderful effect.

Na następnej lekcji Harry przygotował krótką prezentację
o zasadzie działania "Camera Obscura".
For the next lesson Harry prepared a short presentation
about te "Camera Obscura".

Poniższy krótki film przedstawia naszą klasę filmową
i ostatnich kilka zajęć z przedmiotu Media Studies
(Studia medioznawcze).
This short film presents our film class and our classes
for Media Studies subject.
